Damon P. Coppola is an accomplished emergency management systems engineer who has bridged the gap between practice and academia through his ever-expanding catalog of emergency management textbooks. Mr. Coppola has consulted as an analyst and technical assistant to clients in the public, nonprofit, and private sectors inclusive of the US Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the National Disaster Preparedness Training Center, the National Science Foundation, The World Bank, The United Nations, the International Recovery Platform, Save the Children, the Annie E. Casey Foundation, national and local governments throughout the world, and many others. Mr. Coppola is also a recognized specialist in emergency management training and education, having developed and co-developed a number of FEMA and DHS products for both the FEMA/EMI Higher Education Program and for the DHS National Training and Education Division. His projects include the 60-hour National Incident Management Systems, the 48-hour Comparative Emergency Management, the 48-hour Hazards Risk Management, the 48-hour Crisis and Risk Communications, the 8-hour Natural Disaster Preparedness for Security Professionals, among others. In addition his consulting work, Mr. Coppola serves as an adjunct faculty member at the Loma Linda University School of Public Health in the Emergency Management department, where he developed (and currently instructs) the course curricula for graduate level courses focused on national and international disaster management. Mr. Coppola has authored and co-authored more than a dozen academic and professional emergency management textbooks that are currently in use at over 300 colleges and universities. Several of these books have been deemed "essential texts" by the FEMA Higher Education Program. His joint effort Introduction to Emergency Management was named the most influential emergency management textbook at the annual FEMA Higher-Education Conference. Mr. Coppola holds a Master of Engineering Management (MEM) in Crisis, Emergency, and Risk Management from the George Washington University School of Engineering and Applied Science, and was awarded the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) professional certification by the American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters.
