I was a high school and middle school teacher for 20+ years before becoming an author of books for teachers and a national consultant. I have worked with over 10,000 teachers across the United States, giving workshops, presentations, and keynotes about improving student performance through literacy skills. I believe that the Common Core Literacy Standards have great promise in improving American education because the Standards are about getting students to slow down, become reflective, expand backgroundd knowledge, grow vocabulary, and read, read, read. My books are reader friendly and practical, written from my perspective as a classroom educator. I love words, word games and puzzles, Shakespeare, and the history and development of the English language.
