Lindsey Philpott

关于作者

Lindsey Philpott (1948 - ) was born in England, where he lived for thirty-three years, soaking up the English sunshine at every opportunity, growing vegetables and fruit in his Plympton home. He has a wife, Kim, and four children, David, Elizabeth, Nicholas and Benjamin - ask him about them! His own childhood days were spent sometimes on the north African continent, sometimes in England and on many later vacations spending time around the Mediterranean. His regular working life was started at the offices of the Exeter cathedral architects, where he learned the art and artistry of architecture and draughtsmanship. His first paid work was to sing in the choir of St. Andrew's in Plymouth. He later moved to Bristol, where he learned the exactitude of structural engineering, becoming the Area structural engineer for the PSA. He worked with his father, a lifelong civil engineer, learning how to deal with contractors and craftsmen as well as learning how to maneuver through the City Halls. He started his own small business as an architect and then moved to Bahrain in the Arabian Gulf for two years. He then emigrated to the USA where he has been ever since. His many moves, his many elements of career life and the exposure he has had to city, country and expatriate life have taught him that nothing is as easy as it first seems and that people are the most important element. Living and working with people is the greatest opportunity for learning. He has spent many years learning knotting, from the age of six onwards, and is now sharing some of that learned and acquired knowledge with all. His greatest thrill is to show young people how they can tie knots - he teaches knotting at the drop of a line or the merest note of a puzzle involving cords. He now edits the international magazine "Knotting Matters" for the International Guild of Knot Tyers, of which organization he has been a member since 1997. More is yet to come, so keep a weather eye open for the next installment in his career, his writing and his life.
