Although born and raised in New York, David Lida has called Mexico City home since 1990. His first book, the short story collection Travel Advisory, was selected for Barnes and Noble's Discover Great New Writers Program. His second, a street-level panorama of contemporary Mexico City called First Stop in the New World, received rave reviews from the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times and the Chicago Tribune, and was chosen one of the best books of the year by the San Francisco Chronicle. Las llaves de la ciudad was written in Spanish, Lida's second language, which he learned as an adult, and chosen by Críticas magazine as one of the best books of the year. His novel One Life, which has received excellent advance reviews, is based on his own experience as a mitigation specialist -- an investigator who works for lawyers who defend undocumented Mexicans who have been charged with capital murder and as such are facing the death penalty. His website is davidlida.com.
