When I was a child growing up in West Seattle, a freelance journalist named Ruby lived in a basement apartment in our home. I used to hang around her to hear her stories and to pound some keys on her old upright typewriter, pretending I was a writer, too. The fascination stuck, and today I am a member of the Salish Sea Writers in Seattle. I'm proud to have a story from my memoir published in the new anthology, Secret Histories: Stories of Courage, Risk, and Revelation. When I received my M.A. in Creative Writing at the University of Washington in the '80s, I dreamed I would find readers and writers who share my passion for storytelling. That dream has come true!
