My name is Nestor Capoeira, I have been a Capoeira (a Brazilian dance-fight-game) player and teacher since 1965. I also recorded some CDs, DVDs, and wrote books on Capoeira wich have been published in 9 countries, places where I lived and taught as a young man. Now I'm almost 70 but, luckily, in very good health so I continue to play the Game, go to the beach, and go out at night to bars and dancing places in Rio de Janeiro where I live 8 months every year. The other 4 months I'm traveling, normaly one city a week, where I teach and give lectures in Capoeira academies of friends and ex-pupils. It's a good life, specialy these last 20 years when Capoeira spread out and became popular in more then 185 countries. We, the capoeira players and teachers, although we train a lot, don't necessarily have a strict life like some other of our coleagues. Many of us enjoy bohemian life as well as "healthy" environments. I, for example, am crazy for Rio's beaches; I live 2 blocks away from Leblon beach and you may find me there even when it's raining. I hope you will enjoy my books. Capoeira is interesting because besides being a fight, it is also a "game", and a dance done to the sound of berimbaus and other Afro-Brazilian musical percution instruments. But the part I like best is it's bizarre Philosophy - "malicia" - wich enables us to have a very specific point-of-view on life, people, and the world.
