Carson F. Dye, FACHE, is President and CEO of Exceptional Leadership, a general leadership consulting firm. A long time leadership and search consultant. Dye has over 40 years of hospital and health system leadership experience and consulting and executive search experience. He has conducted several hundred CEO, senior executive, and physician executive searches for health care organizations ranging from academic medical centers to large systems to small-to-medium sized hospitals. He provides consultation in leadership assessment, succession planning, CEO-board relations, and leadership development. Dye has done extensive work in physician leadership development and has built custom physician leadership development academies for a number of health systems. Certified by Hogan Assessment Systems to utilize their psychological inventories for selection, executive assessment, and coaching, he helps individual leaders and leadership teams enhance their effectiveness and collaboration. Dye has taught many programs for the American College of Healthcare Executives since 1987 and has presented workshops for over 60 state and local hospital associations. He is a faculty member for the Governance Institute and is one of the physician leadership consultant experts on LaRoche's National Consultant Panel. He currently teaches leadership and human resources in the University of Alabama-Birmingham Executive Master's program and from 1985-2008 served on the faculty of the graduate program in management and health policy at Ohio State University. He is the author of 14 books, including 3 James Hamilton ACHE Books of the Year, Leadership in Healthcare: Values at the Top (2001), Developing Physician Leaders for Successful Clinical Integration (2013), and The Healthcare Leader's Guide to Actions, Awareness and Perceptions (2016). The Developing Physician Leaders book has been used by several organizations as a model for building their physician leadership academies. He has also authored, Leadership in Healthcare: Essential Values and Skills (2010), The Healthcare C-Suite: Leadership Development at the Top (2008), Exceptional Leadership: 16 Critical Competencies for Healthcare Executives (2006 and 2015 Second Edition), Winning The Talent War: Ensuring Effective Leadership in Healthcare (2001), Executive Excellence (2000), and Protocols for Health Care Executive Behavior (1993). The Dye-Garman Leadership Competency Model from the Exceptional Leadership book has been used widely by many health care organizations as a competency model for assessment, selection, development, and succession planning. He has served on the boards of Lourdes University, The Sight Center / Toledo Society for the Blind where he served as board chair, and the Visiting Nurses Association.
