Claire O'Neal first dreamed about being a writer when she was nine. She wrote goofy rhyming poems and fairy tales about unicorns in her marble-covered composition books. Her first story, about a funny ghost, won a children's competition in Illinois. As a grownup, Claire has written over thirty nonfiction books for children. She begins every one of them in a marble-covered composition book. Claire studied English and biology at Indiana University, and earned a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Washington. She lives in Delaware, where she drinks shocking amounts of coffee with her geologist husband and enjoys going on long walks with two young sons.
