Patricia Swann, former dean of the School of Business and Justice Studies, is the senior public relations faculty member at Utica University, Utica, New York. She is author of “Cases in Public Relations Management” (Routledge) which uses problem-based learning case studies for graduate and undergraduate public relations programs globally. She has also authored and illustrated two research methods textbooks: The Illustrated Guide to the Mass Communication Research Project and The Illustrated Guide to the Content Analysis Research Project. The cartoon illustrations are informative but mostly humorous to help newbie researchers engage the material. Swann is past president of the public relations division of Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, the leading national educational organization for public relations college professors. She has more than 20 years experience in the field of public relations and journalism. She has spent the bulk of her professional career involved in healthcare and educational public relations and was a reporter/feature writer for The Southeast Missourian newspaper. She has won national, state and local awards for writing, and public relations activities. Before joining the Utica College program, Professor Swann was a professor at Morrisville College. She is a member of the Public Relations Society of America and serves as faculty advisor for the Raymond Simon Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America at Utica College. She is executive director of the Raymond Simon Institute of Public Relations and Journalism. Public relations is embedded in Utica University's DNA. It was one of the first undergraduate program degrees offered in the United States in 1949. Utica College has produced some of the leading public relations educational and industry thought leaders, including its program founder Raymond Simon.
