Ann Marie VanDerZanden

Dr. Ann Marie VanDerZanden is Professor of Horticulture and Associate Director for the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching at Iowa State University. In her academic career she has taught many different horticulture courses including current courses in landscape design, and landscape contracting and estimating. Much of what she teaches is based on her work experiences in landscape design, installation and maintenance, as well as garden center and nursery sales. She has also traveled extensively exploring and studying landscape design and management strategies throughout Europe, and incorporates many of these concepts in her teaching and research. She is a frequent contributor to regional and national horticulture magazines and television programming, and has an extensive speaking schedule centered on landscape design, plant selection and sustainability. Her other published textbooks include Landscape Design: Theory and Application (2007) and Mathematics for the Green Industry (2008). Dr. VanDerZanden is an an award winning teacher and was recognized as the Outstanding Undergraduate Educator by the American Society for Horticultural Science in 2010.
