I am originally from New York City and spent many years living in Virginia (outside DC). But now I hang out in St. Petersburg, FL. I began writing for children after my defection from the practice of banking law. Since then, I have had over 35 books published, with more to come. Most of what I write is nonfiction. Why? Because I love learning about new things--like animals, history and people! I am thrilled to report that STOMPIN' AT THE SAVOY: How Chick Webb Became King of the Drums from Sleeping Bear Press won the 2021 Florida Book Award Silver Medal for Younger Children's Literature and that LIONS & CHEETAHS & RHINOS, OH MY! which I co-authored with John Platt, is on the New York State Reading List this year. Please check out my most recent release: LITTLE KIDS FIRST BIG BOOK OF ROCKS, MINERALS AND SHELLS, with National Geographic. And be watching for more books from National Geographic as well as TAPPING FEET, a history of tap dancing, with Reycraft Books (Spring 2023). I love hockey, tap dancing, old movies, and dogs. And I love to hear from young readers (and writers!). Please visit my website at www.moirarosedonohue.net: Nonfiction: The Truth, and Nothing But..., for writer tips, more information about my books, and my availability for my school visits.
