R. Bruce Craig (www.rbrucecraig.com) is an historian specializing in the history of espionage though he also focuses his research activities on national parks and the American West. Craig's best-known book is TREASONABLE DOUBT: THE HARRY DEXTER WHITE SPY CASE (University Press of Kansas). He is also the author of numerous articles for popular and scholarly publications. Craig's most recent book (2017) -- PORTRAIT OF A PROSPECTOR -- is a "constructed autobiography" of Edward Schieffelin, the famed American frontiersman, Indian scout and discoverer of the legendary Tombstone silver mines. Craig's most recent espionage-related title is an e-book titled, "The Apprenticeship of Alger Hiss" published by the Now and Then Reader. The book is a condensation of several chapters of his forthcoming biography of Alger Hiss titled THE LIVES OF ALGER HISS: THE MYTHS, THE MASKS, THE MAN tentatively scheduled for publication in 2019. In this, the first full-scale biography of Alger Hiss since his death in 1996, the author draws from once secret KGB files and previously untapped Hiss family papers to provide new and telling insights into the life and times of one of the most important and enigmatic figures of the 20th century. A former National Park Service ranger-historian, Bruce also maintains an ongoing interest in the American and Canadian national parks and historic sites. To this end, he is the editor of the 50th anniversary revised and expanded edition of Freeman Tilden's classic work on the art and craft of heritage interpretation, INTERPRETING OUR HERITAGE (University of North Carolina Press).
