Jay Antani is a lifelong disciple of stories, both the personal and the fantastic. He came to writing by way of film studies, commercial illustration, and film journalism. After receiving his MFA from USC, Jay published “The Leaving of Things” (Lake Union, 2014), an award-winning coming-of-age saga about finding one’s voice in a world of clashing and competing cultures. His next book, “Edge of Light” was a total departure, a YA sci-fi adventure set against the backdrop of war, environmental collapse, and a possible alien pandemic. As a fan of alien invasion stories, adventurous journeys, and conspiratorial thrillers, “Edge of Light” packed in everything Jay loves about the sci-fi genre while continuing his exploration of such themes as friendship, loyalty, and courage amidst the call of destiny. Jay's most recent book, "Transcendent," delves into the realm of the survival adventure set amidst the terrifying isolation of deep space, depicting the efforts of a sole crewman to survive against seemingly insurmountable odds aboard a disabled colony ship, in which all other crew members have perished after a disaster. It's a work of both adventure and reflection as our protagonist, at all times, weighs the value of his own life against the cruel reality of survival thirty trillion miles from home. In other words, it's like a lot like life inside our own minds. As a metaphor that illuminates the meaning and value of life, there's nothing like a survival adventure.
