Celia Jaes Falicov

Celia J. Falicov was born and raised in Argentina where her parents had migrated from Eastern Europe. Subsequently, she migrated to the U.S. where she received a Ph.D. in Human Development from the University of Chicago. A clinical psychologist and family therapist, she has pioneered writings on family transitions, migration and culture in therapy practice and training, receiving awards and international recognition for this work. Her books include Family Transitions: Continuity and Change over the Life Cycle; Cultural Perspectives in Family Therapy and Latino Families in Therapy. She is co-author of Multiculturalism and Diversity in Clinical Supervision Falicov has developed many culture and context-attuned practice ideas for work with immigrant families. She is Clinical Professor in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine and Director of mental health services at the Medical Student Run Free Clinic of the University of California, San Diego.
