Jonathan A. Noyalas is director of Shenandoah University's McCormick Civil War Institute where he also teaches courses in Civil War Era Studies. He is the founding editor of Journal of the Shenandoah Valley During the Civil War Era. He is the author or editor of eleven books on Civil War Era history and has contributed scores of articles, essays, book chapters, and book reviews to a variety of publications including Civil War History, Journal of Illinois History, Civil War Times, America's Civil War, Hallowed Ground, Blue and Gray, and Civil War News. In addition to teaching, writing, and lecturing to a variety of popular and scholarly audiences Prof. Noyalas has worked on a variety of public history projects with organizations such as the National Park Service, Civil War Trust, and Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation. He has appeared on C-SPAN's American History TV, PCN, and NPR's "With Good Reason." Prof. Noyalas is the recipient of numerous awards for his teaching and scholarship including the State Council for Higher Education in Virginia's Outstanding Faculty Award and Shenandoah University's Teaching Excellence Award for the first year seminar.
