I am a sociable and reflective person who likes to roam and read and see where my writing, speaking, and teaching work take me. CONTACT me at gnovato1@comcast.net. AUTHORS: If you're interested in having my company create an economical and engaging trailer for your book, contact me at gnovato1@comcast.net. 2021: EDITING FOR DIRECTORS: A GUIDE FOR CREATIVE COLLABORATIONS I wrote this book to help film directors make their way through postproduction and explain what to expect from an editor. From thinking about editing during the shoot to hiring an editor to spotting and mixing sound and music, to delineating the purpose and types of VFX to completing a project with final sound, music, visuals, titles, DI, and color grading, the book covers all the practical aspects directors need to know. Along the way it details the history of editing, demystifies how editors approach cutting the footage and coaches the directors on how to best work with an editor to create and perfect the story and their vision of the film. 2016: THE WRITE SPOT TO JUMPSTART YOUR WRITING: CONNECTIONS, piece in an anthology by Marlene Cullen. 2014: CHRONICLES OF OLD SAN FRANCISCO: EXPLORING THE HISTORIC CITY BY THE BAY personifies history with 28 chapters, each centered around one of the city's primary movers or shakers. The book also contains 8 self-guided walking tours linked to Google maps so you can discover the city by yourself. 2012: CUT BY CUT: EDITING YOUR FILM OR VIDEO, Second Edition guides filmmakers through the editing process from start to finish and is used as a text book at universities and professional schools. 2009: My "pictionary" book, FILM EDITING: GREAT CUT FILMMAKERS AND MOVIE LOVERS MUST KNOW, uses 600 frames from recent films to illustrate the types of cuts editors make: smash cuts, flash cuts, jump cuts, etc., why they make them, and how these cuts affect the audience.
