Lee Gramling is a sixth generation Floridian who writes action-adventure stories set on the Florida frontier. The idea of creating these "Cracker Westerns" came to him while living in the West (Oklahoma) and was first introduced to the novels of Louis L'Amour. It occurred to him that Florida had all the same elements of the "Wild West" during its 400-plus year history -- cattle ranches, Indian wars, boom towns, outlaws and gunfights -- which he'd been hearing about all his life from his parents and grandparents. But somehow very few stories had been written about them. He decided it was high time someone filled the gap. His current novels include Trail From St. Augustine, Riders of the Suwanee, Thunder on the St. Johns, Ghosts of the Green Swamp, Ninety-Mile Prairie, War Clouds Over West Florida, and Trouble in the Everglades.
