Joseph Massie

Aged just fourteen years old, Joseph Massie began his first Saturday job in a local florist in his home town of Liverpool, UK. It was here that he discovered his love of flowers and began, a then unimaginable career, of floral design, winning awards, international exhibitions and guest lecturer appearances around the world, sharing his knowledge of floral design. Joseph considers himself to have been privileged throughout his career to exhibit at, and win, some of the world's most incredible floral shows - including winning five, consecutive Gold Medals and four, Best in Show titles, at the prestigious RHS Chelsea Flower Show. With a clutch of prestigious, international awards, Joseph turned his attentions to artistic endeavours working across ten countries, on a wide variety of art projects including botanical couture, sculptures and installations. Joseph’s artistic work has been featured in press including The Times, The Independent, The Daily Mail and his work commissioned by international institutions and brands including, The Boston Museum of Fine Art, The New York Botanical Gardens, Universal Studios and Sky Television. In January 2015, Joseph founded his own Floral Art Studio with a focus on the artistic expression of botanical materials, through sculpture, installation and couture works. The art studio sits alongside Joseph Massie Flowers, a luxury flower studio dedicated to delivering some of the UK’s best floral wedding and event design, and Joseph Massie’s UK School of Floristry. As a floral creative who has designed and taught around the World, from museums and fine art galleries to the White House to name a few, Joseph came to realise just how much passion there was for floral design and how many students were engaging in learning the necessary skills to enable floristry to be not just their passion, but their career too. Joseph also came to see where there was a real gap between what was commonly being taught in floral education and what is actually required for the running of a profitable and contemporary floral business. Joseph felt that students were being let down and that he could help. Students at his own floristry school in England were going on to grow their own beautiful, successful businesses. Time after time, students were getting back in touch with stories of how they’d changed their careers and changed their lives after attending Joseph’s courses. Joseph knew he wanted to support, inspire and share his knowledge with absolutely everyone who wanted to work in the floral industry or create with flowers, but there were only so many students Joseph could reach through his UK school. That is when Joseph began searching for ways to reach students eager to learn wherever they were based in the world. Thus was created, his online learning platform LearnJosephMassie.com with a collection of professional online floral design courses, and his revolutionary, online floral membership, Flower Class, for on-going learning and support. With the release of Flower School, Joseph’s first book, his goal is to provide an invaluable tool and guide that can be cherished and referenced time and time again as people embark on their own floral design journey.
