Brett Edward Whalen

My interest in medieval history started when I was young kid. When I got to the University of Vermont, I realized I could purse a career as a professional historian of the Middle Ages. After getting my PhD at Stanford in 2005, I had the good luck to land a job at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where I work currently. As you'll see from my books, I remain fascinated above all by the history of the medieval Christian church, including the history of the apocalypse, the papacy and its relations to worldly rulers, the crusades, pilgrimage and more.
