At Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York, I teach courses in literacy, children's literature, storytelling, and writing for children. My professional books are shaped by what my students want to know, from working in a classroom-based teacher education program, and from delivering workshops for teachers around the US and in many parts of the world. These days I am working as a volunteer of CODE, the Canadian literacy organization, helping storytellers in Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Tanzania develop books for childre3n. As a storyteller and folk musician, I often do school programs, and it was a natural step to start writing books for children. My wife Codruta and I live in the Finger Lakes of New York State. We have five very fine children between the two of us. And a sturdy grandson. And a younger but equally sturdy granddaughter.
