We spend easily half of our waking hours at work. What would it mean for us individually and as citizens, parents, brothers/sisters and friends if on most days we experienced dignity, meaning and community at work? What if we had the chance to really play to our strengths and passions at work? For almost 40 years I have been exploring these issues in roles such as social systems designer, thinking partner and coach to clients in healthcare, education, retail, manufacturing, government and professional service organizations - in the US, Central America, the Caribbean, Western Europe, Canada and the Middle East. Clients whom I have supported around organizational performance (quality, cost, customer service and accelerated cultural change) as well as organizational assessment have included AT&T, British Airways, British Petroleum, British Gas, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Cameco, CertainTeed, Coca Cola, Domtar/Georgia Pacific, Delhaize Group, Exxon, GlaxoSmithKline, Government of Trinidad and Tobago, Government of Canada, LL Bean, National Defense/Canada, Novartis, Tufts Medical Center, Novo Nordisk, RR Donnelley and Sons, Shell Chemical, and the World Healthcare Organization. My journey in Collaborative Design and Innovation has challenged me to integrate the best of Design Thinking, Open Socio-Technical Systems, Large Group Methods, Social Constructionism, Complexity Science and Strength Based Change with my experiences as a senior manager in a national financial organization. Some 20 years ago I had the chance to pioneer the translation of the then new ideas from Appreciative Inquiry into practical use at the strategic, organizational level and to bring alive the highly successful, first, international AI Conference in 2001. In addition to my role as senior partner in IPI, I am senior faculty at NTL Institute for Applied Behavioral Science, member of the Advisory Board of Taos Institute and Plexus Institute Associate. As a practitioner/scholar, I have published widely in the fields of collaborative innovation, and design Recent books: * "Appreciative Inquiry: Change At the Speed of Imagination" (Jossey Bass) * "Essentials of Appreciative Inquiry: A Roadmap For Creating Positive Futures" (Pegasus Communications, Waltham, USA) * "The Appreciative Inquiry Summit: A Practitioner's Guide for Leading Large-Group Change" (Berrett-Koehler). My formal education includes: * an honors BA in Organizational Psychology, (University of Waterloo), * an Ed.M in Organizational Learning (University of Toronto) * a Diploma in Organization Design (Columbia University).
