I love natural remedies and I've been using them for as long as I can remember. When I was growing up, I learned about natural cures such as chamomile tea for its calming effect, arnica for sprains and bruises and of course, chicken soup with garlic for colds and flu.
My interest in natural remedies continued as I graduated from Boston University with a degree in communications, worked in advertising and television production. I moved to LA next, where I worked as a screenwriter and in TV production with Linda Bloodworth-Thomason, the creator of Designing Women and Evening Shade, and Dean Hargrove, the creator of Diagnosis Murder and Matlock.
In 1998, I became a full-time journalist and author and joined the American Society of Journalists and Authors.
I wanted to write about topics that could have a positive impact on readers, so I decided to specialize in ways to improve mental, emotional and physical health and well-being. Over the past twenty years, I've contributed to many national publications including AARP, USA Today's Green Living, Experience Life, Natural Health, Woman's Day, Remedy, Better Homes & Gardens, Prevention, Vegetarian Times, and Spirituality & Health. In 2009 I began writing non-fiction books for Quarto, one of the largest illustrated book publishers in the world based in London, England. My book with Jacob Teitelbaum, MD, Beat Sugar Addiction Now! is a Quarto best-seller and now in its 4th edition. Due to its success, I've written two follow-up books in this series: the Beat Sugar Addiction Now! Cookbook and The Complete Guide to Beating Sugar Addiction. Both BSAN and the BSAN Cookbook were also published as French editions.
Other books for Quarto include The Country Almanac of Home Remedies and The Home Reference to Holistic Health and Healing: Easy-to-Use Natural Remedies, Herbs, Flower Essences, Essential Oils, Supplements, and Therapeutic Practices for Health, Happiness, and Well-Being which was released in 2019.
In 2011, Gallery Books/Simon & Schuster bought my natural remedies series. The first book in the series, DEATH DROPS: A Natural Remedies Mystery was released in 2012 to positive reviews, followed by SCENT to KILL, the GARDEN of DEATH and DANDELION DEAD. Included in all books in the series is information about natural remedies, alternative medicine and green living. You can find out more at www.chrystlefiedlerbooks.com.
When I'm not writing, I'm researching my next three book projects, all of which are set in the United Kingdom as I'm a complete and total Anglophile. As such, I enjoy tea, gardening, watching Britbox, Acorn TV and spending time in nature with my dachshund Murdoch.
