James Meyer

James Meyer is Curator of Modern Art at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC and was previously Winship Distinguished Research Associate Professor of Art History at Emory University and Deputy Director and Chief Curator of Dia Art Foundation. His research interests include the historical avant-garde and neo-avant-garde movements of the 1960s and 1970s, and contemporary art practices that draw from these precedents. His most recent books are "The Art of Return: The Sixties and Contemporary Culture" (University of Chicago, 2019) and "The Double: Identity and Difference in Art Since 1900" (Princeton, 2022), published in concert with "The Double" exhibition organized by the National Gallery of Art in 2022.
