Caltha Crowe taught elementary school for more than thirty five years. She taught pre-school through grade five in both urban and suburban settings. Now retired from teaching, Caltha works part-time as a Responsive Classroom consulting teacher. She supports teachers across the country in creating safe, joyful and engaging learning environments. Her book, Solving Thorny Behavior Problems (2009) is a guide to various strategies that a teacher might use to help children who struggle with persistent behavior problems. Sammy and His Behavior Problems (2010) is a memoir of a year with a student whose behaviors challenged his classmates, his teachers and himself. Her newest book, How to Bullyproof Your Classroom, K-5 (2012) is based on extensive research about evidence based practices to prevent bullying in elementary school classrooms. Her articles about teaching and learning have appeared in the Responsive Classroom Newsletter and in Educational Leadership. She currently writes regularly for the Responsive blog, which you can find at www.responsiveclassroom.org/blog. Caltha lives in Bethany, CT with her husband, Jerry Allison. She has two adult daughters. Caltha enjoys backpacking, rock and ice climbing, mountaineering and cross country road trips.
