Cookbook author and journalist Anupy Singla is fast becoming one of the country’s foremost authorities on Indian food and cooking. She is the author of three books. Indian for Everyone is a compilation of the most popular Indian recipes outside the Subcontinent. Her first two books, The Indian Slow Cooker and Vegan Indian Cooking, are top-selling Indian cookbooks in North America. Anupy is a former business reporter and has worked in print, television, and radio. Her last job was as the morning reporter for Chicago Tribune-owned CLTV. She has also reported for Bloomberg News and WGN-TV. Anupy’s food-related work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Sun-Times, the Wall Street Journal, and various other newspapers and magazines. Although not a trained chef, Anupy grew up cooking with her paternal grandfather who was from a small village in Punjab, India. She has traveled throughout India and worked with renowned chefs and home cooks alike. Anupy and her growing food and housewares company, Indian As Apple Pie, have been featured in Entrepreneur and Kiwi magazines, and she has appeared on television stations across the country and in Canada. She teaches monthly classes at Chicago’s Whole Foods Market in Lincoln Park and continues to blog and write about all things Indian food on her website, indianasapplepie.com. Anupy was featured in the Smithsonian’s Beyond Bollywood Exhibit, which showcases the impact of Indian Americans on this country’s history. And, she is a member of the prestigious Les Dames d’Escoffier, the Asian American Journalist Association, and the South Asian Journalist Association. Anupy lives in Chicago with her husband, Sandeep Gupta, and their two young daughters.
