Erin Elizabeth Hatton

Dr. Erin Hatton is Associate Professor of Sociology at the University at Buffalo -- SUNY. Her research is centered in the sociology of work, while also extending into the fields of gender, race, labor, law, and policy. Her first book, The Temp Economy: From Kelly Girls to Permatemps in Postwar America (Temple University Press), brings these themes together in an examination of the temporary help industry and the rise of the new economy. Her newest book, Coerced: Work Under Threat of Punishment (University of California Press), examines the labor coercion that connects prison labor to welfare-to-work, NCAA athletics, and graduate student labor.
