Robert Glenn Howard

Robert Glenn Howard is Director of Digital Studies and Professor of Communication and Religions Studies in the Department of Communication Arts at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. He is also the editor of the journal Western Folklore.

Working in several fields including Communication, Religious Studies, and Folklore, he has published three books and more than 30 articles. His writings have appeared in Critical Studies in Media Communication, Journal of American Folklore, and New Media and Society. Since 1994, he has sought to uncover the possibilities and limits of individual empowerment through everyday expression on the Internet.

A committed to education, Howard has founded a Digital Studies Program at the University of Wisconsin that includes an undergraduate certificate in Digital Studies that seeks to offer students tools for better understanding the digital media worlds that we all inhabit.

Howard received a B.A. in English from the University of California at Berkeley, and a M.A. from the Folklore and Mythology Program and the University of California at Los Angeles. He went on to complete his Ph.D. emphasizing everyday religious expression in the English Department of the University of Oregon in 2001.
