Carol Carter is a different kind of teacher to students. She and her staff teach students in her company, LifeBound, who are for-credit interns. Instead of facilitating in front of the class, Carol works with students first-hand on everything from research to marketing to developing training programs for students. For the last ten years, Carol has been President and Founder of LifeBound, a student success company which publishes books, conducts training in academic coaching skills and provides teacher training the in the K-12 and college areas. LifeBound’s goal is to eradicate developmental education at the college level in the next decade by better preparing incoming freshmen with college level skills. Carol’s passion is solving tough problems in practical ways. Like most students, she thrives when she is challenged. Carol began her career in the business world of publishing in 1984. In 1987, she was promoted at age twenty-six to become the first female assistant vice-president at Prentice Hall when she went from marketing manager to director of college marketing. That same year, she published her first book, MAJORING IN THE REST OF YOUR LIFE: Career Secrets for College Students, now in a fifth edition. Two years later, Carol co-authored a book for college freshmen entitled, THE KEYS TO SUCCESS, which is used throughout the country, Latin America and Canada to help freshmen succeed in college. Fifteen years after publication, the series has helped over a million students do well in college and their careers. Finally at Pearson, she became Vice President and Director of Student Programs for Pearson Education, a position she held until 1998 when she left to join the LEARNING NETWORK. In addition to writing books and running LifeBound, Carol is a national and international keynote speaker. She has spoken at the East Asian Regional Council of Schools in Bangkok, the Tri-State Conference in the Dominican Republic and the Teachers Matter Conference in Australia and New Zealand. She is the proud step-mother of Chris and Michelle, who are both college students, and the aunt to one niece and three nephews in college. She and her husband, Norton, enjoy bike riding, skilling, hiking, yoga and, most of all, spending time with family.
