Alain LEMPEREUR is a mediator in conflicts and crises and a worldwide negotiation expert. He is the Alan B. Slifka Chair Professor at Brandeis University, where he is also the Director of the Master’s Program in Coexistence and Conflict at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management. He is a Member of the Executive Committee of the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School. He has developed reconciliation and leadership programs in Africa, particularly in Burundi and in the D.R. Congo. He is a former Special Fellow of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), and he belongs to the UN mediators' network. He facilitated local and global meetings for the International Dialogue on Peacebuilding and Statebuilding. Since 1996, Professor Lempereur’s programs of research, executive training and consulting on leadership, negotiation and conflict resolution have been delivered to government and business leaders in more than 50 countries. He advises national and international organizations, such as the European Commission, NATO, OECD, UNDP, and WHO, as well as consulting companies, like the BCG and McKinsey, and international corporations, such as Alcatel-Lucent, EADS, EDF, Faurecia, KPMG, Orange, Sanofi-Pasteur and Vivendi. He also created, and is the CEO of Co-Developpement. In 2011, the Financial Times designated him "Professor of the Week" for his contribution to negotiation and mediation. He has written many books and articles on issues of leadership, mediation, and negotiation and his current research is devoted to responsible leadership and negotiation. His books, including The First Move: A Negotiator’s Companion, have been translated in a dozen languages. As a professor at Essec Business School – Paris, he established a European negotiation institute (Irene) that he led from 1995 until 2008. In 2003, he initiated the Negotiators of the World programs and, in 2009, became the Essec Negotiation and Mediation Chair Professor. He also taught as a visiting professor at Harvard, as well as at the University of Mannheim, at the University of Corsica, and at the Cyprus International Institute for Management. A graduate from the University of Brussels and a Fulbright Fellow, he received his doctorate from Harvard Law School.
