Matthew J. M. Coomber is a Professor of Biblical Studies at St. Ambrose University and an Episcopal priest. His primary research and writings focus on biblical economics and how ancient texts that challenged imperialism in their time might assist in confronting modern exploitation. In addition to numerous articles and chapters, Coomber’s books include Re-Reading the Prophets through Corporate Globalization (Gorgias 2010, reprinted by Cascade, 2022), Amos and Micah: Through the Centuries (Wiley Blackwell, forthcoming), and Common Good: A Biblical Ethos Against Poverty (Cascade, forthcoming). Coomber has also edited Bible and Justice: Ancient Texts, Modern Challenges (Routldge, 2010), was co-editor of The Fortress Commentary on the Bible: Old Testament and Apocrypha (Fortress, 2014) and its study editions (2016), and has edited the first book of his six-volume series on the Bible and Economics, Economics and Empire in the Ancient Near East (Cascade, 2023).
