Matthew Hall

Dr Matthew Hall's works examine the relationships between human beings and plants. Originally trained as a botanist at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, Matthew gained his PhD in Environmental Philosophy from the Australian National University. He has published widely across the botanical sciences, social sciences and humanities. His work Plants as Persons: a Philosophical Botany (SUNY Press, 2011) is regarded as a seminal text in the burgeoning field of human-plant studies. His latest book The Imagination of Plants: A Book of Botanical Mythology examines how the world's mythological traditions perceive and relate to the plant kingdom.
