Wayne Woodward is Professor Emeritus of Statistical Science at Southern Methodist University. He joined the faculty in 1974 and spent most of his academic career at SMU. He twice served as chair of the Department of Statistical Science, in 1990-1996 and 2006-2016, the longest service of any Statistical Science department chair. The Statistical Science Department’s Ph.D. program in Biostatistics as well as its professional Master’s program were realized under his leadership. Professor Woodward’s research on time series analysis – on which he supervised 21 Ph.D. students – helped establish SMU as a national leader in this field. He has received SMU’s highest recognitions for teaching and service, including the Altshuler Distinguished Teaching Professor and the Tunks Distinguished University Citizen awards, and the United Methodist Church Scholar/Teacher of the Year. He is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA), an elected member of the International Statistical Institute, and a recipient of ASA’s Don Owen Award.
