Zachariah Mampilly is the Marxe Endowed Chair of International Affairs at the School of Public and International Affairs, City University of New York. Previously, he was Professor of Political Science at Vassar College and Director of the Program in Africana Studies. He has taught at Columbia University, UCLA and the University of Dar es Salaam as a Fulbright Fellow. Based on field-work behind insurgent lines in D.R. Congo, Sri Lanka and Sudan, his first book, "Rebel Rulers: Insurgent Governance and Civilian Life during War," was published by Cornell University Press in 2011. His second book, "Africa Uprising: Popular Protest and Political Change" was published by Zed Press in 2015 (co-written with Adam Branch). He is the co-editor of a two-volume set on peacemaking, "Peacemaking: From Practice to Theory," (Praeger 2011) along with Andrea Bartoli and Susan Allen Nan. Most recently, he co-edited "Rebel Governance in Civil War," (Cambridge 2015) with Ana Arjona and Nelson Kasfir. Mampilly has lived, worked and/or studied in many parts of Africa and South Asia including extended stays in Tanzania, Uganda, D. R. Congo, Sudan, Nigeria, Sri Lanka and India.
