While most recently I have been writing on Zen and meditation you’ll notice that I’ve written books on a wide variety of topics. I’ve also written books on computer programming, video game design, virtual reality, psychology, hospice and have at last started to publish my novels. This reflects my eclectic training first as an Astrophysicist/Computer Scientist, then as a Psychologist, then as a game designer, then in recent years retraining as an ordained Priest (Zen and Christian) and Board Certified Chaplain working primarily with patients on palliative care and hospice with a historic focus on working with very sick children. My writing career started in England (I was born in the University City of Oxford) when I was writing academic papers on Childhood Autism—the topic of my Clinical Psych PhD. While I initially went to University to study Physics and Computer Science (I later added Psychology to the mix), I didn’t start writing technical books until the advent of the home computer revolution in the early 1980s. I founded one of the first video game companies (EDGE Games, which I still run), and wrote my first mass-market book, “The Spectrum Handbook,” that hit No. 5 in the London Times Bestseller List (one below “Jane Fonda’s Workout” – the sort of detail I'm not likely to forget!). I went on to write several books on computer games, testing games and writing prose and story for video games. I even wrote a book on Virtual Reality in the middle of the first VR fad in the mid-1990s. More recently, I have been privileged to be part of projects that have led to a book on Coping with Vision Loss (written with my English Professor wife, Cheri Langdell), and even more recently I contributed to a fantastic book on Alzheimer’s. My deep passion and calling to both Zen and Mystical Christianity has finally led to my releasing the books I had been writing for several decades on the cross over between Christ and Buddha, along with writings on Zen, Mindfulness and Christian Mediation. And as I mentioned, I have also finally started to publish the various novels I have been drafting over the years. I started with the first of a trilogy inspired by Douglas Adams, and am working on some detective novels and SciFi works (Agatha Christie is also a passion of mine, as is Azimov). Last, I am also a passionate blues guitarist, although that is more likely to lead to my releasing an album rather than a book. Stay tuned, I have a wide range of writing projects in the works including books on Hospice and in particular caring for dying children.
