Tom Dufur grew up in the Four Corners region of northwest New Mexico and cultivated an early allegiance to the Bowtie Marque fostered by a 1967 Camaro and lots of wide-open roads. In 1976 he moved to southern California, the birthplace of hot rodding, and became immersed in the local car culture and drag racing. He worked as a technical editor for Car Craft magazine and Petersen’s now-defunct Drag Racing magazine before landing a position with the Edelbrock Corporation where he performed a variety of duties over the next 24 years. He campaigns a big-block Chevy-powered dragster (what else?) in NHRA Super Comp and Top Dragster competition and races in the K&N Super Eliminator Series in southern California running on a 7.90-second index. He won the K&N Super Eliminator Series championship in 2005 and again in 2008, and is hoping to add a third championship to the list before hanging up the driving gloves. He plays the trumpet in three Los Angeles area symphony orchestras and performs in a host of local bands and other musical productions. He is also an avid reloader and enjoys competing in action pistol and tactical rifle matches.
