Michael S. Fey, Ph.D. Dr. Fey is pleased to present his new groundbreaking book, and his first eBook, "The Complete Virtual Guide to Pricing Morgan Silver Dollars". The book is designed for anyone wishing to know how to value their silver dollars especially non-collectors. For the first time, all elements in the pricing of silver dollars are considered in an easy-to-use step wise fashion with copious pictures and links to other references. These elements include: Date and mint mark; grade; proof, specimen or pattern coins; rare die varieties, coins with special provenance, error coins, and counterfeits. A value guide is also included. While most collectors and dealers know of Dr. Fey’s expertise in advanced silver dollar collecting and investing, few know that he has comparable expertise in nearly all U.S. coinage types, in all types of Canadian and Maritime Province coins, in 20th century Philippines and Mexican types, and in working with clients of his Rare Coin Investments (RCI) business on a wide range of numismatic investment properties. Dr. Fey was second under bidder on the Walter J. Childs specimen of the 1804 silver dollar (1999), generally thought to be the finest known example of the “King” of all U.S. coins. In the year 2000, it sold for $4.14 Million. Dr. Fey is a professional member of all the most recognized grading services (PCGS, NGC, NCS, ANACS and others), and has been engaged as a consult to the grading services at times. He maintains membership in dozens of numismatic specialty organizations, and has published extensively on new variety discoveries in U.S. and foreign coins. He has given dozens of numismatic talks in public venues and has taught advanced courses at American Numismatic Association's (ANA) Summer conferences. He is currently the Senior Instructor for a course titled "Collecting and Investing in Morgan Silver Dollars", at the ANA Summer Seminar in Colorado Springs, CO. His books, "The Top 100 Morgan Dollar Varieties: The VAM Keys" co-authored with Jeff Oxman, and "A Decade of Top 100 Insights", have become ground-breaking books and necessary references for dealers and advanced silver dollar collectors. He also assisted several other authors with editing and publication of their numismatic reference books. Dr. Fey has conducted numerous Ultra Rarity auctions through his company Rare Coin Investments (RCI), and has brought consignors record prices for their silver dollar rare die varieties and collections. He is actively involved with Heritage auctions, one of the largest numismatic auction houses in the U.S. Dr. Fey donated much of his time to the coin collecting hobby. He is a past member of the 26,000 member Board of Governors of the ANA (2005-2007), a member of several ANA Presidential appointed committees, the ANA Consumer Protection Committee and is currently serving on the ANA Mediation Committee. He is also currently serving as a member of the ANA Advisory Board, and as a member of the founding Board of the Society of Silver Dollar Collectors (SSDC). He served as President of the New Jersey Numismatic Society (2002), and is currently serving the Combined Organizations of Numismatic Error Collectors or America (CONECA) as Attributor of Trade, Morgan and Peace silver dollar varieties. The hobby has recognized Dr. Fey’s efforts in numismatics with an ANA Glen B. Smedley award, three ANA Presidential awards, The National Silver Dollar Roundtable Presidential Award, the New Jersey Numismatic Society Charles F. Nettleship award as well as dozens of certificates and awards for speaking and teaching engagements. Dr. Fey was a founder and President of New Life Health Products Corp., was awarded two patents and a trademark for a drug he developed to help people quit smoking, and received grants from the National Heart Lung & Blood Institute. He was Chairman and founder of Venture Match of New Jersey, and a founder and Board member of the Venture Association of New Jersey, two not-for profit organizations, and was a Director of the Rutger’s University Technical Assistance Program. He was Director of the Food Division of Radiation Technology Inc., and was a Technical Brand Manager for the Proctor & Gamble Company. Dr. Fey received a Ph.D. (1980) from Cornell University, an M.S. from Louisiana State University (1976), a B.S. from St. John’s University (1972), and had MBA coursework from Xavier University. He served his country as a Vietnam Era Officer in the U.S. Army Chemical Corp. At age 69, Dr. Fey recently retired from U.S. Masters competitive swimming. In 2019, he received a silver medal in the 50 yard butterfly, and bronze medals in the 50 yard backstroke and 100 yard Individual Medley in the U.S. Senior Olympic Nationals in Mesa Arizona in May, 2019. In August, 2019 in Guangju, S. Korea at the FINA World Championships, Dr. Fey finished 7th in backstroke, 10th in breaststroke, 12th in freestyle and 13th in butterfly in the long course 50 meter events. He is married with two children and one granddaughter.
