J. Mark Souther was born in Gainesville, Georgia, in 1971 and lives in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. After completing his B.A. at Furman University, he studied at the University of Richmond (M.A.) and Tulane University (Ph.D.). He is Professor of History and Director of the Center for Public History + Digital Humanities at Cleveland State University. He is author of Believing in Cleveland (Temple University Press, forthcoming November 2017) and New Orleans on Parade (LSU Press, 2006, 2013), which won the Kemper and Leila Williams Prize in Louisiana History and the Gulf South History Book Award. He is co-editor of American Tourism: Constructing a National Tradition (University of Chicago Press, 2012).
