Richard Fox, Ph.D., was born in 1964 in St. Louis, MO. Richard earned a BS in Computer Science from the University of Missouri Rolla (now Missouri University of Science and Technology) in 1986 and an MS and a Ph.D. in Computer and Information Science from Ohio State University in 1988 and 1992 respectively. His area of expertise is Artificial Intelligence and in particular Knowledge-based Systems. Upon graduating, Dr. Fox obtained an assistant professor position in computer science at the University of Texas - Pan American.

In 2001, he moved to Cincinnati, OH and is currently a professor of computer science at Northern Kentucky University where he teaches a combination of computer science and computer information technology (CIT) courses. His two textbooks come from experience in creating and teaching two CIT courses at NKU, CIT 130 Information Technology Fundamentals and CIT 371 Unix Systems. At NKU, Dr. Fox chairs the University's curriculum committee and is regularly involved with Faculty Senate.

Richard is an avid sports fan, particularly college and pro football and college basketball, a science fiction fan and heavily into progressive rock music. Favorite authors include Larry Niven, Charles Sheffield, John Varley and Stephen Baxter. Favorite bands include Frank Zappa, Genesis, Yes, Renaissance, Camel, Saga, Jethro Tull, Van der Graaf Generator and Kansas to name a few.
