Mr. Larry E. Newman

Larry Newman is a renowned author, distinguished music educator, and accomplished composer dedicated to inspiring young musicians. With extensive experience in music education, he has taught and directed programs at over 100 elementary, secondary, and collegiate institutions. As the founder and CEO of Children's Music Workshop and Music Fun Books, Larry has developed an expansive catalog of over 300 books, arrangements, and compositions tailored for young musicians learning strings, woodwinds, brass, piano, guitar, and ukulele.

Larry holds a Bachelor of Music Education, cum laude, from Temple University’s College of Music, and a Master of Arts in Music Performance from Eastern Illinois University. He is also credentialed as a California teacher. His career spans contributions to public and private music programs from Kindergarten to college, helping to enrich arts education across diverse educational settings.

A skilled trumpet player, Larry has performed internationally, captivating audiences across the United States, Canada, and Japan. His notable engagements include playing with The Glenn Miller Orchestra® under Larry O'Brien, The Claridge Hotel Casino Orchestra under Jack Six, and performing aboard The S/S Norway Big Band during a year-long cruise. He has backed legendary entertainers such as Dizzy Gillespie, Florence Henderson, Jerry Lewis, Michel Legrand, Cab Calloway, Rita Moreno, and many more, showcasing his versatile talent.

Larry's work has garnered numerous accolades, including five Los Angeles area Emmy Awards for his elementary orchestra broadcasts from UCLA’s Schoenberg Concert Hall. He received the Lori Petrick Excellence in Education Award from the Palisades Charter Schools Foundation and was honored by the Los Angeles City Council for his contributions to music education. Additionally, he has been featured on CityView's Channel 35 series, Faces of LA, and was a BRAVO Award nominee from the Music Center of Los Angeles County.

Larry's expertise extends to Hollywood, where he served as a trumpet instructor for the Universal film Ray, starring Jamie Foxx, and worked on Anywhere But Here, starring Susan Sarandon and Natalie Portman. His dedication to music education is matched by his creative output, which has made a lasting impact on young musicians through his engaging and accessible resources.
