Rob Kramer is Co-Founder and Partner at Spiro Coaching Institute. Since 1998, he has provided executive coaching and consulting for a variety of sectors, specializing in academic leadership and team development. Rob is the author of Stealth Coaching (2nd edition, 2020), Taking the Lead: A Guide for Emerging Leaders in Academic Medical Centers (2022), and Management and Leadership Skills for Medical Faculty and Healthcare Executives (2nd edition, 2020). The latter has been recognized by the United Nations for helping achieve their Sustainable Development Goals for Health and Wellbeing. He has provided a leadership column for Advance magazine and is a regular contributor of leadership articles for The Chronicle of Higher Education. Rob is the co-creator of the Integral Higher Education Leadership Profile (IHELP), a 360-assessment instrument specifically for higher education senior leaders.
Rob has been teaching coaching skills programs for leaders since 2004 and has worked in academia for over twenty years. Rob currently teaches faculty leadership programs at UNC-Chapel Hill’s Institute for the Arts and Humanities. He was the founding director of the Center for Leadership & Organizational Excellence at NC A&T State University and prior to that was the director of Training & Organizational Development at the University of North Carolina, where he oversaw management, supervisory, and leadership development for 12,000 faculty and staff.
Rob is an executive coach for the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL), an organization ranked among the best executive education providers in the world. He taught and coached at the Federal Executive Institute for fifteen years, the premiere executive leadership development organization for the Federal government. Rob has lectured at Yale University, the University of Virginia, Duke University, and the University of Colorado, among other academic institutions.
Rob received his BA in Psychology from the University of Delaware. Concentrating on Social Psychology, Rob's primary focus was examining group behavior, dynamics, and interactions. He received an MFA in Dramatic Art from the University of North Carolina, was the founder and executive director of two non-profit arts organizations and co-hosted of the popular Artist as Leader/Art Restart podcast. Rob completed his graduate studies in Organizational Development at UNC-Charlotte. Rob is a Fellow at the Institute of Coaching -- McLean Hospital, Harvard Medical School affiliate, where he leads the Coaching in Higher Education discussion group. He is a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) from the International Coach Federation (ICF), a CCL certified coach, and an active member of ICF and the Organizational Development Network.
