I was born in Swanage, England. After high school in New Jersey, I went to sea as an engineer apprentice with the BP Tanker Company, rising to the rank of third engineer. My subsequent seafaring career included spells with European Ferries, P&O Ferries and RMC. After leaving the sea and graduating from university with a degree in mechanical engineering I worked for the Bermuda Electric Light Company and for Lloyd’s Register, before starting Weston Antennas, designing and manufacturing large satellite earth station antennas, and installing them worldwide. I presently work for Siemens and my wife and I live in Dorset. My boating experience includes sailing from New York to Lymington in a home designed and built 26’ boat and competing in the Azores race in my own 26’ sloop. I have just returned from probably the most unlikely trip ever made by a 31’ Mitchell Sea Angler, to the Mediterranean and back via the rivers and canals of France. In order to cruise more extensively, we have bought a 42’ lift keel aluminium sailing boat.
