Jonathan Kane is a retired professor of mathematics and computer science having taught a wide variety of mathematics, computer science, statistics, and actuarial science courses at the undergraduate level for 32 years. He is very active in the mathematics competitions community having helped establish and run the free, annual, international, online, team mathematics competition, the Purple Comet! Math Meet. He also chairs the American Mathematics Competition's Invitational Mathematics Examination Committee and serves on the AMC 10/12 and the USAMO Committees.
He is currently the Secretary/Treasurer of the Wisconsin Section of the Mathematical Association of America. He has published research articles in his thesis area of Several Complex Variables, in Probability Theory, Algorithms, and about Gender Issues in Mathematics Education.
