Donald R. Tjossem was born in Lewiston, Idaho on April 7, 1941. He attended school from the first grade through high school in Ephrata, Washington, graduating in 1959. Following that he graduated from Washington State University with a major in General Studies in 1963. His major areas of study were sociology and psychology.
He went to work for Seattle-First National Bank in 1964 and followed a banking career in the Puget Sound area until 2000, where he was employed by KeyBank in Gig Harbor, WA. Following that he earned a Master of Science degree from Capella University in Professional Counseling and was a chemical dependency counselor at the Washington Correctional Center for Women in Gig Harbor. Following that he had his own private chemical dependency counseling practice in Key Center Washington.
He and his wife, Becky, now live in Longbranch where they enjoy the beach, going for walks, bird watching and kayaking in this southern Puget Sound Community. He has an amateur radio station, W7DRT, and is active in emergency radio communications.
Tjossem has written four books, which Arcadia Publishing has published; Images of Gig Harbor, Images of Bainbridge Island, Mountain Climbing in Washington State and most recently Images of Tacoma.
