I was born and grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I attended the State University of Iowa (now the University of Iowa) where I graduated with a BA in journalism with an emphasis in advertising.
Upon graduation I joined the General Electric Company in its Marketing Communications Department. After double digit years with GE I moved on to work for such notable companies as Fairchild Camera & Instruments, Texas Instruments, IKON Office Solutions and eTERA Consulting, Inc. During my work years I had the pleasure of knowing and closely working with leaders of such global companies of Nortel, AT&T, NCR, Chrysler Corporation, and Hewlett Packard.
The last 20 years of my business career, my wife and I lived downtown Washington, DC, about six blocks from the White House. When people would find out where lived, they would invariably ask, "What did you do?" My answer would, " I had the best job in the world. I made lawyers pay." I was a bill collector specializing in the legal industry.
Upon retirement, we set out for what has become referred to as an ERV, Extended Retirement Vacation, which had us living in the Loire Valley of France for four years…making great friends, drinking fine wines, and eating excellent food.
Throughout the years I've swum, competitively and recreationally. Swimming is how I got through college. I started swimming competitively when I was ten, and fortunate enough to be able to compete at a national level.
We have three grown children who literally live around the world. My wife and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary in 2015...And still in love.
