Paul, is a native of Northfield, Ohio, and a History graduate from the University of Akron, where he specialized in Native American and Colonial American History. While a student at Benedictine High School in Cleveland, Ohio, Paul was a regular lecturer on WEWS Channel 5 TV in Cleveland, where he discussed the Ohio Native Americans. He is a former teacher, high school football coach, and flight instructor. Paul began flying for Eastern Air Lines in 1967, and his career spanned thirty years with over 26,000 hours as an international airline captain with six different international airlines. In 1996, Paul began a second career with the National Transportation Safety Board and was chief of the Operational Factors Division that was responsible for the investigation of airline accidents and serious incidents. In keeping with his lifelong interest in American and Native America History, much of the research for Paul’s books was accomplished during his travels as a pilot and government investigator. Paul and his wife Sally reside in Reston, Virginia near Washington, DC, and they have two children, Karen and Paul Jr., and two marvelous grandchildren.
