As long as I can remember, I have loved the outdoors and have cared about the environment. I grew up in Germany and moved to South Africa in 1995 after meeting my future wife, Caroline. We married in Cape Town and began a life together, working on many joint projects. She too is a passionate lover of nature and comes from a family united by love of the soil, gardening and environmental activism. In 1998 while working on a Koi farm, I accidentally (or so I thought) stumbled upon the subject of worm farming. We initially raised worms as a high protein food for our Koi fish but as I researched the subject of worm farming (vermiculture), I became totally fascinated by these wriggly creatures and decided to start my own worm farm and promote worm composting. In 1999 I started one of the pioneering worm farming companies in South Africa - "Global Worming". I initially started with just 1000 composting worms, which have now been multiplied into millions. Countless households and businesses have purchased worms, worm farms, worm castings and worm tea from us. I made a video about the basics of worm farming for the city of Cape Town that can be viewed on our homepage at www.globalworming.co.za and have given seminars about worm composting on behalf of the Botanical Society of South Africa and the Department of Environmental Affairs of the City of Cape Town. With my work I hope to encourage and empower people to generate or increase their income from home, improve their lives, and protect the environment. I have been moving back and forth between South Africa and Germany researching and promoting worm composting, both as a hobby and a business for many years now. In 2011 I started the website www.worm-composting-help.com which is published in English and German language and is constantly growing. When my wife graduated from her master's degree at the University of Cape Town in 2016, she completed a permaculture design certificate and began building her own website www.greenidiom.com which is about gardening with nature, and its impacts on health and on the environment. In 2018 she published a book on the grey water bio-filtering systems she has built called DIY Grey Water Wetland: How to build a permaculture inspired, drought tolerant, kitchen water filtering, raised bed vegetable garden and wetland. I love the outdoors and am a keen sportsman! My favorite sports being football (soccer) and Cricket. I have been a supporter of the German soccer club Eintracht Frankfurt for nearly 40 years now (why didn't I pick another team?) and enjoy cooking and writing for our website www.lookingatcooking.com. Thank you for reading our profile. I wish you all the best for your future! Yours Stephan Kloppert
