Ron Barrett is the illustrator of the classic picture book, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, one of the NY Times Ten Best Illustrated Books. It has sold over six million copies globally and produced two motion pictures. Born in The Bronx, Ron was mentored by Ludwig Bemelmans’ ghost artist and was an apprentice in the atelier of the pioneer of modern graphic design, Lucien Bernhard. Ron’s formal training was at the High School of Industrial Art, The Art Students Leaugue and Pratt Institute. His illustrations for Old MacDonald Had an Apartment House, the first of many collaborations with Judi Barrett, were exhibited at the Louvre’s Musée des Arts Décoratifs. Ron has illustrated and authored 26 books for children and adults and has appeared frequently in the New York Times since 1991. His work was shown in the Times Best Illustrations of the Past 20 Years exhibit at the Society of Illustrators. He was also a frequent contributor to The National Lampoon and created its most popular comic strip, Politenessman. As the Lampoon’s Art Director Ron turned out the lights when it closed its doors. Ron lives on NYs Upper West Side where he follows the dictum of The Art Students League, “Nulla dies sine linea”. In fact, on most days there’s more than one line.
