James McClanahan (1963-) first became interested in radio and electronics when he built his first crystal radio at age seven. Over the years he built a number of radios and spent countless hours listening to them. During the early days of personal computers he also developed an interest in computer hardware and software. In addition to writing books and articles related to radio and electronics, he also hosts a popular Youtube channel under his amateur radio call sign, W4JBM. His hobbies include amateur radio and the restoration of vintage radios and test equipment. He holds a B.S.E.E. and an MBA. The degree in electrical engineering was a natural extension of his early interest in radio and electronics. His day job is working with utility smart grid efforts.
