For 15 years I had been educated in the public school system and had been taught that the origin of life by universal common descent and random processes was scientific truth. It began in the primary grades, when I was introduced to dinosaurs, and it was presented throughout the rest of my school and college career as if it was fact and no one questioned it. In college, I felt comfortable with the fact that I was really grasping the "true" history of the world. However in the spring of 1980, while attending a forestry field trip in North Carolina, I became involved in a series of conversations centering on the case for a Creator, followed by watching the prayers of godly men get answered. These brought me to a spiritual crisis and great conviction. I realized that scientific data is interpreted through a worldview and the only one I was taught was a worldview that excluded God. I realized that I could look at the same data with a biblical worldview and have a different interpretation of the origins of life and the universe. Though there is much we do not understand, I have found that a biblical worldview brings more satisfying perspectives regarding life's origins and how we should live. As I sought godly counsel and began studying the Bible, I realized that I had rejected Christ’s gift of salvation because of my beliefs in philosophical naturalism. Once the stumbling block of this worldview was removed, I was ripe for the Gospel of Christ and have since desired to have the mind of Christ. As an ecologist and one who is interested in our stewardship mandate, I have wanted to encourage people through writing. The emphasis of my writing focuses on a biblical worldview of environment and organism biology. Today, as an associate professor of biology at Truett-McConnell College, my desire is to see my students appreciate the creation God has given us, strive to have the mind of Christ, and have a truly biblical worldview of origins and environmental stewardship.
