Judith Kerman has published seven collections of poetry, most recently Galvanic Response (March Street Press) and Plane Surfaces/Plano de Incidencia (CCLEH), as well as two books of translations of Cuban and Dominican women poets (White Pine Press, BOA Editions). She was a Fulbright Scholar in the Dominican Republic in 2002, and her video documentary about Dominican Carnaval can be seen on YouTube on the Judith Kerman channel. She has visited Cuba seven times on scholarly and people-to-people permits. She founded Earth's Daughters magazine in Buffalo, NY (1971 to present) and runs Mayapple Press, now located in Woodstock, NY. In 2011, she retired from Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan, where she was Professor of English for 14 years and Dean of Arts and Behavioral Sciences for 6 years before that. Judy enjoys music and fine crafts work, especially metalsmithing, knitting, photography and book arts. She set several of her own poems to original music and is studying voice again after many years. She loves travel and shopping for crafts; among her several collections, she particularly looks for art glass marbles, culturally-specific masks, and boxes.
